It’s all about the women, the ladies and the girls this August and forever as this year, Netflix is celebrating South Africa’s Women’s Day through a curated collection of stories called She Multiplied – to shine a spotlight on the many incredible female talents on screen and behind the camera.

She Multiplied is a collection of movies and series, across genres and formats where women are front and centre, and includes the amazing titles that many women have worked extremely hard on to share their talent not only with the girls and women of South Africa, but around the world as well.

The reason for this collection is simple: More women deserve to see their lives reflected on screen. At Netflix, we want to open the door to more stories by, for and about women. The collection will feature titles starring, created by, produced by and directed by some of the best talent in the country including Fatal Seduction, Blood & Water, How To Ruin Christmas, Young Famous and African, Unseen, Savage Beauty, Home Wrecker, JIVA!, I Am All Girls, Happiness Ever After, Seriously Single, The Brave Ones, Queen Sono, Trippin’ with the Kandasamys, Kings of Joburg, and soon will also include Netflix’s newest YA series Miseducation.

“For women in entertainment it hasn’t always been an easy road, and there is still a lot of catching up to do to become what it should be. There are so many women in the entertainment industry, but there is always room for more,” said Dorothy Ghettuba, Netflix’s Director of African Series at an intimate Women’s Month celebration event with South African female talent (from in front and behind the screens) in Johannesburg on Friday 4 August. Ghettuba told the guests – who each brought along an important female figure in their lives – that “The goal behind the collection is to showcase the diversity and range that women excel at in film and television, both on and off screen, and to inspire other women to reimagine their roles in society so their voice can continue to multiply in different areas”.

Not only is the collection packed with stories from a great diversity of female actors, directors, and producers, but there’s also something for everyone. Netflix invites you to immerse yourself in these stories fearing amazing women talent  and  celebrate with the female heroes of entertainment on the service. We know they have many more stories to tell and cannot wait to watch their stories multiply on Netflix.
