With the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season just days away, SuperSport has announced sweeping plans to ensure a steady stream of content with all 240 matches live plus an array of support programming.
Every goal will be available on DStv and, for the first time, fans will have the chance to earn R100 000 for dressing up as part of the “Amafandays” initiative that will be rolled out by DStv.
Apart from the live action on linear (traditional) television, matches will also be available on DStv Stream, which requires no satellite dish or installation.
With four languages – English, Zulu, Sotho, and Tswana – long the standard on PSL television broadcasts, for the first time multiple language options will be available on streaming.
Magazine shows
In going all out to make the season a memorable one, SuperSport has also re-jigged its magazine show line-up as follows:
- Extra Time (Mondays, 8.30pm).
- The NFD Show (Tuesdays, 6pm).
- Fan Base (Sundays, after the day’s final match).
- Woza Weekend (Thursdays, 6pm).
- Tactics and Trends, featuring Phumudzo Manenzhe and guests (Thursdays, 9pm).
Presenters
The live match-day experience will continued to be anchored by Carol Tshabalala, Thomas Mlambo, and Thato Moeng, who all bring heavyweight credibility to proceedings. Additionally, sideline presenters will include Phumlani Msibi, Lerato Phago, Lwazi Ziqubu, Fiso Mazibuko and Lindiwe Nxumalo.
Amafanday
The launch of “Amafandays” will shake up the local football season with its objective to reward the Premier Soccer League’s best fans.
Taking place in selected matches at the beginning and end of each month, the special fan days will see the best-dressed supporter rewarded with R100 000. If they are a DStv Compact (or higher) subscriber, the cash will be doubled.
SuperSport’s cameras will pan the crowds for suitably dressed fans and the three considered to be best will be invited onto the field at halftime to take a penalty kick against local television stars who feature on the DStv platform.
Each of the PSL’s 16 clubs will have a chance to host these fan-friendly days.
Digital and social
With the DStv Premiership traditionally hot property on the social channels, efforts will be redoubled to have the very best short-form content, highlights and special moments included, together with a dedicated home on supersport.com and the Blitz news channel.
Technical
SuperSport, which prides itself on broadcasting every goal to come, will be helped in their endeavours by the brand-new IP 1 Outside Broadcast unit that was recently shipped from Europe. Cutting-edge technology will therefore go up a notch, with SuperSport’s graphics blending with world-class augmented reality and virtual reality to ensure the optimal viewing experience.
Showmax
Showmax Pro subscribers can stream all DStv Premiership games live and watch the latest highlights from as little as R199 for Pro mobile – and enjoy all the latest magazine and club shows.
Showmax Pro gives users the ability to watch live games anywhere so they can keep up with all the latest football even when on the move.
Two games on at the same time? No problem, users can stream on up to two devices simultaneously (one live match on TV and another on mobile device or tablet) and see if anyone can finally stop Mamelodi Sundowns from winning a seventh consecutive title.
